Gaggenau

a still life recipe series and advertorial

When the German luxury appliance brand Gaggenau turned 333 years old, it invited Disegno and Tack Studio to create a special project about the passage of time to celebrate the occasion.

The result was Food and Time, a two-part project to make Gaggenau’s heritage. Split between an online recipe series and a print advertorial,Food and Time positioned Gaggenau as a forward-thinking brand, while still acknowledging its rich history.

Food and Time melting recipe

To capture the experimentation and technological innovation of the Gaggenau brand, Disegno and Tack Studio commissioned the food designer Francesca Sarti and her studio Arabeschi di Latte to create a series of inspiring recipes that encouraged a more reflective, restful approach towards cooking and dining.

Food and Time ripening recipe

Tack Studio paired Sarti with the still-life photographer Michael Bodiam to create the recipes and capture them in a series of beautiful images and GIFs that brought the cooking processes behind each dish to life. Ranging across melting, fermenting, slow cooking and ripening, the recipes inspired reflection on the role that time plays in producing any finished dish.

The project was presented on a dedicated microsite on disegnodaily.com. It was also featured in ‘The Edit’ section of Viewpoint magazine #38 as well as in Food Style, a book published by Gestalten.

The process of fermenting can happen very quickly or over a long period of time. Francesa Sarti explored this process in her recipe for the Food & Time project with Gaggenau and Disegno magazine.

Sarti’s recipes were accompanied by a print advertorial published in Disegno #12. For this feature, Disegno commissioned a photographer to visit the Gaggenau factory in Lipsheim, France, and document the industrial craft and heritage of the brand.

The resultant four-page photoessay displayed the highly engineered nature of Gaggenau’s products, as well as the handcraft that goes into each of its designs: an elegant way of generating design interest in the brand.
