Timberland

The first pair of Timberland’s boat shoes were made in 1979. An iconic piece of the Timberland’s heritage, the shoe is still manufactured on the brand’s original machines. This history provided the backstory to a collaboration between Timberland, Tack Studio and Jocks & Nerds magazine: a project to communicate the boat shoe as a lifestyle accessory that could travel from the deck of the boat and onto the city streets.

Tack Studio cast Daniel Jackson as a bohemian in a big city. Sitting on the deck of a boat, Daniel wears the Timberland boat shoes, taking in the urban scene. The shoot took place on a canal towpath east London, nodding to the heritage of the boat shoe whilst placing it in a contemporary urban setting.

 

The image of Jackson sat on the deck of a canal boat was published as a double-page spread in the spring 2016 issue of Jocks & Nerds, along with a short story about Timberland and the boat shoe. The campaign was shot by London-based photographer Derrick Santini and styled by Mark Anthony Bradley.

This was the second time that Timberland and Jocks & Nerds have worked together. The story of Timberland’s origins and production in Boston was featured in the 12th issue of the magazine.
